Dear Parents/Carers
Re: Weather and school site conditions
The vehicle and pedestrian main access onto our school site, as well as the paths and grounds across the site, are very icy. The latest information from the Met Office is that temperatures will be -5 overnight tonight and then remain below freezing with patches of freezing fog throughout the day tomorrow. Therefore, we are expecting conditions to deteriorate overnight.
We aim to have the school site open to all tomorrow if it is safe to do so and will assess conditions on site early tomorrow morning. We grit as much of the main pathways as possible before the start of the school day. However, please be aware that there will be icy areas across the school site throughout the day and your child should take extra care. Please ensure your child is prepared for the conditions with suitable footwear and coat. Please also remind your child to be cautious when walking/travelling to and from school.
The forecast is that temperatures will be below zero overnight for the remainder of the week. As we are now in the winter months, please see below a reminder of our winter conditions readiness message to parents:
- We always endeavour to keep the school open safely for all. The potential for disruption due to winter weather is often a concern at this time of the year.
- In the case of winter weather, we assess the conditions around the school site, whether CCBC transport (buses and taxis) are operating, and the availability of staff as early as possible in the morning.
- If the school has to close or partially close to some year groups due to safety, a banner will be placed on our school website by 7.30am and a text will be sent to parents/carers. Please ensure that we have an up-to-date mobile number for you.
- If the school had to close during the school day, we would send a text to parents/carers informing you of this. We would inform CCBC transport and ask for buses/taxis to attend as soon as possible. Please ensure you have made a contingency plan with your child about your arrangements with them about how they would safely travel/walk home in such circumstances.
- Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately and prepared for winter and the forecast conditions e.g. sturdy footwear, and a warm and waterproof coat.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
Miss Collins
