Dear Parents and Carers of prospective St Cenydd pupils
We are looking forward to the Y6 transition week here at St Cenydd School. Please find below updated information following on from my letter two weeks ago regarding our arrangements for Wednesday 6 July and Thursday 7 July:
Wednesday 6 July - Y6 Parents Information Evening 6pm at St Cenydd School in our Main Hall.
We are once again oversubscribed in Y7 this September. Please note that this is a parents only event, and we would appreciate your support with this so that everyone can have a seat in our Main Hall. We anticipate the event running from 6pm-7pm and will include:
- Series of short presentations from key staff and an opportunity to speak to staff, including senior staff, ALNCO, and Head of Year
- Uniform display
- Canteen food samples
- Opportunity to purchase Maths and Art sets in readiness for September
However, as you will be aware, there has been a significant rise of COVID-19 both locally and nationally. It may be that we will have to move the Parents Information Evening online at short notice. Should this be the case, we will record the staff information presentations and place these on our website for you to view www.stcenyddcommunityschool.co.uk. In the meantime, please continue to use our dedicated email account for Y6 parents year6@stcenydd.co.uk which is regularly monitored by the new Head of Year 7 and Assistant Headteacher. Please do not hesitate to be in contact should you have any questions.
We will update our school website by 4pm on Tuesday 5 July with a banner stating whether the event will be face to face, or replaced with recorded materials. Please check the school website for this update.
Thursday 7 July - Transition day when all of our new Y6 pupils experience a full day here at St Cenydd. Their day will include an assembly, they will meet their form tutor, have the opportunity to meet new friends, and have a couple of taster lessons. To confirm:
- Y6 pupils should wear their own primary school uniform for this transition day.
- Pupils should start to arrive at the main gate from 8.15am onwards where they will be greeted by staff, and shown to the Main Hall for their first assembly which will begin at 8.35am.
- We would encourage pupils who live close to the school to walk to school with their older siblings or friends, as they will in September. We will provide a free bus service for Y6 pupils living in Senghenydd or Abertridwr, as in September (please see attached sheet for further details).
- Y6 pupils do not need to bring any special equipment with them other than a pencil case. They will not need their PE kit.
- Your child will be able to purchase food at break and lunchtime from our Caerphilly Council canteen using their new school dinner fobs. We will then collect these back in to keep them safe for them until September. If you would like your child to purchase food rather than bring a packed lunch, Caerphilly canteen staff have asked that you please visit the UPay chilli payment system. If you have any difficulty in accessing this prior to next week, please do not hesitate to contact us on the year 6 email account. Canteen staff have assured us that those pupils entitled to a free school meal will have credit already placed on their accounts for this day.
- The Y6 transition day will finish at 2.55pm in line with the rest of the school. We would encourage children to walk home with older siblings or friends, as they will in September. This will also minimise traffic around the school site. The Y6 free bus will return those pupils who travelled on it in the morning to Senghenydd or Abertridwr (please see details for the bus below).
We very much look forward to meeting both you and your child next week.
If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to use the dedicated Year 6 transition email address to make contact with either Mr Dickinson (Assistant Headteacher KS3), Mrs Buswell (Head of Year 7) or Ms Bolton (Assistant Head of Year 7): year6@stcenydd.co.uk
Yours sincerely
Mr Lee Dickinson
Assistant Headteacher (KS3)

- Y6 pupils should travel on this bus as they will not have a pass for the other school buses until September.
