All students in PE, irrespective of ability, receive an inclusive and broad based curriculum providing opportunities to flourish at all levels. A wide range of competitive and non-competitive activities are offered on the curriculum allowing all students to have a sense of achievement whilst encouraging positive self-esteem. An overriding aim is to develop positive attitudes towards sport and physical activity to encourage life-long participation. A diverse range of experiences are offered both during lesson time and in extra-curricular sessions, and through work led by the school’s 5x60 Development Officer. A high value is placed on the development of transferable life-skills including communication, leadership, problem solving and team work.
At Key Stage 3 all students are given the opportunity to participate in the following activities – gymnastics; adventurous activities; health, fitness and wellbeing activities; racket sports and athletics. In addition to this girls will take part in hockey; netball; rounders; dance and the boys will participate in rugby; football and baseball.
At Key Stage 4 students are provided with the opportunity to select from the range of activities covered in Key Stage 3 with the addition of a wider range of non-competitive fitness based activities. Students can choose to take their studies to GCSE level following the WJEC specification, which contains both theory and practical components.
