On Wednesday 16th October 45 pupils across years 9-11 travelled to Monmouth to experience a new form of theatre.
‘Feel me’ is a new, interactive theatre show which asks pupils, via mobile phone, who and what they care about from the stories unfolding live on stage. Currently touring the UK and then Indonesia our pupils witnessed a mixture of live performance, film, projection, dance and music. ‘Feel Me’ explores the different lenses through which we are told, and connect to stories in the modern digital world.
GCSE pupils were able to identify Brechtian aspects to the performance whilst also marvelling at the amount of audience participation. The screens and technology really bridged the gap between theatre and performance art and their teenage worlds!
Considering the deeper theme of ‘force displacement’ was also an integral aspect of the production and the performance regularly asked the audience to put themselves in the characters’ positions with questions they could visually see being answered live on stage with the use of emoji graphs, wordles and graphics.
After the performance pupils were able to discuss and question actors about aspects of the rehearsal process, career paths, life as an actor and force displacement.
