A group of year 10 and 11 pupils attended the University of South Wales to compete in the Under 16 Maths Pop Quiz. The quiz was held in the Students Union building with plenty of refreshments provided to keep the students going while the problems became more and more challenging! The quiz uses everyday applications of mathematics to show how fun maths can be and that effective teamwork is a vital aspect of success.
Our pupils formed 3 teams to represent St Cenydd, competing against over 100 pupils from schools all across South Wales. The teams had to answer 16 maths problems in an allocated time. All 3 teams did extremely well with the team of Gethin Ralph, Sam Coakley, Morgan Gregory, Kyle Parsons and Connor Bateman finishing in 4th place and only 1 point behind 1st place! This is the school’s best ever performance in this event and with the team all in year 10 they are already eyeing up a podium finish next year. Well done to all pupils who took part.
