Year 9 Treading the Boards in Cardiff
For the first day of this two day event students travelled to The Bishop of Llandaff High School in Cardiff, where they were introduced to other members of their group. Here they worked together in their groups creating a dramatic presentation of the book they had read. Author Phil Carradice was on hand to help them polish their acts.
The morning of day two was spent at The Gate Theatre, Cardiff, rehearsing presentations in the morning and performing in the afternoon in front of Cathays and The Bishop of Llandaff High Schools. All groups performed in front of a panel of guest judges that critiqued and advised the students in readiness for their evening’s performances.
Throughout the day students were also able to take some time out for drama workshops and to attend a question & answer session with author Dave Shelton.
The day culminated with some wonderful performances for family and friends. Sophie Perry was in the overall winning group on the night whose performance was based on the book The Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick. But the actual book that won the Cilip Carnegie medal for 2016 was Once by Sarah Crossen, a novel written in free verse. A superb two days of drama and literature!
Treading the boards were Laura Hartland, Charlotte Robinson Adam Davies, Ethan Wiltshire, Lowri Hughes, Erin Hole, Sophie Perry and Olivia Leatham.
